Dr Tang qualified at the University of Manchester in 1998 and has practised as a GP since 2003, with more than 25 years in medicine overall across both NHS and private settings. His experience spans acute and chronic disease management, emergency medicine, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, geriatric medicine and surgery, and that emergency background still shapes how he works: think about what could be serious first, then work back from there.

His focus on early detection is personal. He is Medical Director of Biox Medical Ltd, the UK distributor of the ColoAlert bowel cancer screening test, a commitment that followed the loss of his father to bowel cancer. He is also a co-founder and Medical Director of Northwest Health, holds a Clinical Director role at Pall Mall Medical, and founded Little Ox, a doctor-designed supplement brand.

He has contributed health commentary to national television and press, including the BBC, GB News and The Daily Telegraph, and teaches medical students, GP trainees and nurses.

How he approaches screening

Plenty of screening is sold as a long list of tests. That is easy to sell and not always useful. Some tests change what you do next; others produce findings that lead to more tests, more worry and no better outcome.

So the consultation comes first. Your age, your history, your family history and how you actually live decide what is worth doing. If something on the list is not right for you, he will say so and take it off, and if something is missing, he will add it.

The same applies afterwards. Every result is explained in plain terms, including the borderline ones, so you leave knowing what matters and what does not.

The clinic

Northwest Health is an independent private GP and diagnostics clinic in Bamber Bridge, registered with the Care Quality Commission (Provider ID 1-24247734964). It was set up to do a small number of things properly: unhurried GP appointments, sensible investigation, and clear explanation of what comes back. Imaging is carried out by established partner centres and reported by consultant radiologists, and blood testing is done through accredited laboratories.
